Kitchen table refinishing made easy
While you could of course just go out and buy a new kitchen table some people simply do not want to swap their lovely table, despite the fact that over the years it has suffered a lot of bumps and knocks. To begin kitchen table refinishing with you will need a largish metal bucket and brush along with a brand of paint or varnish stripper. Paint stripper is a paste that you will use with a brush to cover the whole of the table top in order to remove the varnish. One word of warning all brands of paint stripper used for kitchen table refinishing must be used in an area that is well ventilated. Breathing in the fumes can be very dangerous.
Choose a brush with wide bristles when considering kitchen table refinishing, this will allow you to cover a large area of the table in the shortest time possible. Begin brushing on the paint stripper in long shallow strokes, do not cake the stripper on the table, less is better when kitchen table refinishing. As you work you will notice that the stripper will start to bubble, this means that it is doing the job it is supposed to. Wait around 15 minutes for the stripper to do its job and then begin to lift off the stripper complete with the old varnish using a putty knife or any tool with a braid flat edge.
Once you have gone over the whole of the table with the stripper and then removed it with the putty knife you can then use steel wool to get rid of the residue that is left behind. To re-stain you will have to use a brand of stain that matches the original color of the table unless you are going to strip the whole of the table down to bare wood instead of just refinishing the top. Depending on the type or brand of stain you have chosen this is applied either with a brush or cloth in long strokes all over the table top and is the last stage to kitchen table refinishing.
